On numerous occasions I’ve been asked the question, “How did you discover your passion?” or “How did you find your dream career?”
How did I know the Internet was my calling? The truth is, I didn’t.
In fact, it’s something I used to ponder about quite often back in the day. What brought me closest to answering the question was asking myself, “what would you do all day, every day, for free.” Admittedly a loaded question, until you break down your life and really examine your habits. Even the simplest of things you do can translate into real value; value creates wealth and wealth creates a career.
What made it clear for me was a combination of fascination and potential. Here I was, a young guy with no money and minimal computer training, with the world at my fingertips.
I was fascinated.
The Internet was the most incredible tool I had ever seen. Not specifically for what it is, but for what it can do. The potential. The potential has caused me to lose sleep at night, to put in 24 hour days, to never ever stop. To forget to eat. To forget to sleep. To laser focus on something so hard that it reveals all its secrets.
That fascination led me down a path I’ve never considered trying to escape. The path of infinite possibility. A path that makes me feel so alive I couldn’t imagine what I would do without it.
Your true passion is something you already do today, you just need to find a creative way to monetize it.
So what gets you excited? What makes you feel alive? What makes you stay awake a bit longer before bed?
What would you do, all day, every day, for free?
“Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.” – Howard Thurman
Now go get it.
